# Modeling Hard Subtraction 1

Trixie was 3 years
and 9 months when this video was made.

**The Problem**

I have 2 parts of a snake. You have 6 parts of a snake.
Who has more parts of a snake - your or me? How many more do
you have than I have?

**What To Look For In This Video**

- Trixie made a model of the problem. She represented the parts of a snake with stones from her garden. She gave me 2 stones, gave herself 6 stones, matched 2 of her stones with my 2 stones, and then counted her unmatched stones.
- I call this kind of subtraction problem "Hard Subtraction 1." You will find the details of Hard Subtraction 1 on the Subtraction tab above. For now the important point is that the model that Trixie demonstrates for this problem is different from the model for Easy Subtraction.
