Shortcuts - Hard Multiplication
Rose was 5 years and 8 months at the time that this video was made.
(Trixie was 2 years and 8 months.)
The Problem
I have 2 tigers and Trixie has 3 times as many tigers. How many tigers
does Trixie have?
What To Look For In This Video
- Rose does not represent my tigers at all. In effect, she has made a Hard Multiplication problem into an Easy Multiplication problem.
- She puts up 2 fingers on each hand as she starts to represent 3 sets of 2.
- At this point she seems to realize that she can solve this problem by counting by 2's.(In other words, she realizes that it is not necessary to find 2 more fingers and it is not necessary to count by 1's.
